Federal Laboratories

EMERGING GROWTH has performed market studies and technology portfolio evaluations for some of the leading Technology Transfer Offices across most of the federal agencies.

How We Work with Federal Labs

EMERGING GROWTH partners with the individual lab's technology transfer officer, to jointly review the lab's portfolio of patents and available technologies. We offer various tools and services ranging from shortlisting and prioritization of the most promising technologies, through mini-market-studies, to full market studies and commercialization implementation.

EMERGING GROWTH's team will help the Lab's Technology Transfer Office:

Review and prioritize the overall technology portfolio.

Perform initial assessment of the most promising technologies.

Create short technology summery PDF documents for licensing offerings.

Perform in-dept full path-to-market studies for individual technologies.

Support in industry outreach for targeted partnering/licensing discussions.

Optimize deal terms based on negotiation partner's strategic need for the technology.

The team has been engaged with over 20 technologies from Federal Labs, and we are currently one of the only providers of this type of service, except for a handful of Partnership Intermediaties, all of which are government funded not-for-profit organizations.

Examples of Technology Areas

EMERGING GROWTH works with both early stage research, as well as commercialization ready technologies. We span the spectrum from very simple mechanical devices to highly complicated, cutting edge technologies.

For example, the following are all technologies we have worked on:

Drug counterfit detection device using monocrome light and a reference database.

FemtoScope for nuclear experiments capable of 155 million recordings per second.

Precision mechanical gear and bearing combined into one device for robotics arm.

Microfluidics technology based on Gradient Elution Moving Boundary Electrophoresis.

Methods and proteins for developing new classes of antibiotics.

Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) sensors for shock sensing.

Sample Federal Lab Clients

We are proud to have worked with the Technology Transfer Office in the following labs: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Naval Surface Warfare Center (NAVSEA NSWC) and Naval Facilities Engineering (NAVFAC).

In 2011 we received the most prestigious technology transfer award given by the Federal Labs Consortium, for our work with the NoFoam System technology from NAVFAC. After performing a full market study in 1994, EMERGING GROWTH licensed this technology, helped change the relevant industry standard, established global export of the system, and brought the technology into a market leadership position.
